East Water Purification Plant Sludge Handling
Facilites Expansion
CLIENT: City of
Houston, Texas
CONTRACT TYPE:
Sub-Contract to Turner Collie & Braden, Inc.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The project includes expansion of existing Sludge
Handling Facilities to treat sludge associated with
350 mgd treatment capacity. The improvements included
addition of Filter Backwash Wastewater Surge Basins,
Solids Contact Clarifiers, Centrifuges and related pumping
systems.
YEAR COMPLETED:
Ongoing
CONSTRUCTION COST:
$2.5 million (Estimated KGI's Portion of the Project).
Total project cost is estimated at $25 million.
SCOPE OF WORK:
KGI was responsible for performing the process and mechanical
tasks for the following portions of the project:
- Filter Backwash Wastewater
Surge Basin Transfer Pumps for Plants 1 & 2 consisting
of four 1,500 gpm centrifugal self-priming pumps.
The pumps transfer from Surge Basins to Solids Contact
Clarifiers.
- Filter Backwash Wastewater
Surge Basin Recycle Pumps for Plants 1 & 2 consisting
of three 200 gpm centrifugal self-priming pumps. The
pumps recycle sludge in the Surge Basins or transfer
from Surge Basin to Thickeners.
- Filter Backwash Wastewater
Surge Basin Transfer Pumps for Plant 3 consisting
of four 1,500 gpm vertical turbine solids handling
pumps. The pumps transfer from
Surge Basins to Solids Contact Clarifiers.
- Sedimentation Sludge
Transfer Pumps for Plants 1 & 2 consisting of
three 1,215
gpm dry pit vertical centrifugal pumps. The pumps
transfer sludge from SedimentationBasins to Thickeners.
In addition, KGI is studying
UV treatment of recycle streams (such as overflow
from Solids Contact Clarifier and Thickeners) to meet
future EPA regulations.
