East Water Purification Plant Expansion

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Engineering Design and Construction Phase Services for
all of the new Electrical Systems at the East Water
Purification Plant (EWPP) to achieve a firm reliable
capacity of 350 mgd.
YEAR COMPLETED:
2002
CONSTRUCTION COST:
$10 million (Electrical Portion of the Project). Total
project cost is approximately $40 million.
SCOPE OF WORK:
KGI was responsible for preparing preliminary engineering,
final design, and construction drawings and technical
specifications for all of the electrical systems involved
in the project. The project was divided into three separate
packages for safety, coordination and funding purposes.
Major emphasis was placed on the design of electrical
systems to minimize interruptions to operation of existing
facilities during construction.
Some of the major
electrical improvements included:
- 5kV Switchgears at
two new locations.
- Power for two Transfer
Pump Stations and Ground Storage Tanks.
- Power for two Low
Lift Pump Stations.
- Electrical for two
separate Filter Air Scour Blower Buildings.
- Power for all Instruments.
- Relocation of electrical
cable trays and underground duct banks.
- Power to sump pumps
and other miscellaneous areas.
