PROJECTS
Wastewater Treatment Plants Renewal
and Replacement
CLIENT:
City of Houston, Texas
CONTRACT
TYPE: Sub-Contract to CDM, Inc.
PROJECT
DESCRIPTION: Hydraulic Evaluation of three existing
Wastewater Treatment Plants.
YEAR
COMPLETED: 2001
CONSTRUCTION
COST: N/A (Study).
SCOPE
OF WORK: KGI was responsible for performing detailed
hydraulic evaluation of three existing wastewater treatment
plants - Keegans Bayou, Upper Brays and Greenridge.
The plants were flooding during peak flow periods. The
purpose of the study was to identify hydraulic bottlenecks,
evaluate alternatives and propose improvements to alleviate
hydraulic bottlenecks to carry a minimum 2-hour peak
flow without flooding. A hydraulic model was developed
to simulate the effect of various flow rates on the
water surface elevation through the plants. Most of
the proposed improvements were implemented by the Client.
The study
also identified the effect of water levels on the Aeration
System and the Blowers.
